OSSC Display Compatibility

monitors, PVMs or via scalers etc). Hopefully this will increase the speed at which info is gathered on TV brands/models which are suitable, without Marqs & Bucko constantly having to monitor things to update the official compatibility google sheet .

WHAT TO REPORT:
Please include at minimum
*complete TV model info
*whether linetriple (Lx3) works
*if tested, whether 60Hz SNES/SFC/NES-RGB works (see further below)
Always use latest firmware, and note if you for some reason are using another FW version.

Additional info is also encouraged (like tested consoles, PAL/NTSC, additional modes, settings tweaks & TV input lag), but in this post I will only summarize the above essentials. Reporting monitors, projectors and other setups is of course welcome, but again, I will not summarize those in this post (at least not at this point).

Thanks to all contributors!

VARIOUS INFO
Linedouble is expected to work on all TVs, and quite few have reported SNES/NES-RGB problems. Line triple mode has had higher compatibility than expected, and compatibility can be increased further by external means. **See note at bottom

Lx4 and Lx5 modes are available since Feb 2017 Firmware 0.76.
FW 0.77 fixed incompatibilities with newer Samsung 4k sets.

n/r – not reported or not tested

Note regarding SNES & NES-RGB
Due to sync jitter caused by a short scanline output by these consoles every other frame in NTSC mode (60Hz), SNES (irrespective of internal hardware) & NTSC NES-RGB have a higher incompatibility rate. Note that this sync jitter does NOT occur in PAL (50Hz) mode. The jitter can be removed with the de-jitter mod developed by Marqs. This modboard can now be ordered from VGP shop, when in stock.
For example, a couple of SNES-incompatible 4k Sonys (X/XD-series) have recently been reported. And several models from all brands can have problems with intermittent image dropouts in various line modes.

Tweaks for Lx3/Lx4 and PAL modes
Regarding the “tweaks” referenced to achieve Lx3/Lx4 for some models, and for PAL modes, see this Tips & Tweaks thread.

TO DO: better sorting and way to distinguish models that are currently on market. I am open to suggestions on this point.

See also the official compatibily chart for even more, including monitors.

Provisional verdict: Samsung, LG, Vizio and TCL are safe bets overall for Lx3 (and above) compatibility. For Sonys, it seems the new 4k X/XD range work with Lx3 also, but not the older W series otherwise highly praised for gaming (do note some incompatibilities with SNES!). Panasonic generally do not seem to do Lx3.

Possible ”best of” list: Premium range: LG C7 OLED; Budget range: TCL S series

**Note that line triple and SNES compatibility can also be alleviated by using scalers like DVDO products (low additional lag), but A/V receivers and even cheap no-name scalers with HDMI input such as this one have been reported to help (though with higher additional lag). Also report of soundbar with HDMI input that can take up to Lx5 signal: haloharry
